Filling out the back end are several one-shot oddball cartoons like The Dover Boys, a take-off on goody two-shoes juvenile pulp heroes already culturally dead when the cartoons were made. Disc two features a restored Adventures Of The Road Runner pilot, but the Roadrunner gets all of five minutes of this very odd 25-minute spot. Bad Ol' Putty Tat; All Abir-r-r-d; Room and Bird; Tweet Tweet Tweety; Gift Wrapped; Ain't She Tweet; A Bird in a Guilty Cage; Snow Business; Tweety Pie; Kitty Kornered; Baby Bottleneck; Old Glory; The Great Piggy Bank Robbery; Duck Soup to Nuts; Porky in Wackyland. Slick Hare — Mike Barrier with Paul Julian 4. Disc 1 showcases a certain wascally wabbit.
Tortoise Beats Hare — Mike Barrier with Dave Monahan 3. Cartoon authors Greg Ford, Jerry Beck and Michael Barrier take turns yack-tracking, and voice talent June Foray does the honors on Broomstick Bunny. But it's a shame that Daffy Doodles was left out. Naturally, everyone has their favorites and it looks like the studio could keep this up for about ten years before unearthing every single one of the hundreds of Looney Tunes short subjects - talk about a gold mine. In addition, there are 15 isolated scores, including for What's Opera, Doc? Disc 1 whoops it up with an all-star array of 'toons featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and more immortal Looneytics. Salas describes the main content of the set, highlighting contributions from and with particular emphasis on Jones' 1955.
Restored and Remastered Welcome back to their world, as fine a place as any to get away from yours, and a fitting, fun-filled, 60-cartoon celebration of the talents and zaniness of Warner Bros. The parade of movie stars can be good, especially with the occasional audio commentary to tell us who we're looking at: Even Savant needs help with some of these faces, even though I know who Jerry Colonna is, etc. It's got a number of practically psychedelic gags, like the 'super chief' express that runs Fudd over with a parade of chugging, grinning rabbits. I'm sure diehard cartoon junkies will devour this set and then complain that there's still stuff they want to see. Coyote, Road Runner, Tweety, Sylvester, Marvin the Martian, Tasmanian Devil, and many more.
Disc 4 All-Stars Back Alley Oproar; Book Revue; Corny Concerto; Have You Got Any Castles; Hollywood Steps Out; I Love to Singa; Katnip Kollege; The Hep Cat; Three Little Bops; One Froggy Evening; Rhapsody Rabbit; Show Biz Bugs; Stage Door Cartoon; What's Opera Doc; You Ought To Be in Pictures. Earlier this year Disney released a bunch of War-themed cartoons with all kinds of un-skippable disclaimers and modifiers to excuse their extreme content. All 60 'toons are restored, remastered, uncut. It's a 24-carrot gem of a collection. Propelled by the creative genius of Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, and Friz Freleng, Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes introduced the world to some of the greatest cartoon characters to ever grace the animated cel: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzalez, Pepe LePew, Wile E. The Heckling Hare — Greg Ford 7. Looney Tunes Go Hollywood 8 mins.
The sound is excellent for its age, with absolutely no hiss or distortion in any of the episodes I saw. Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 1 Directed by: Starring: Release-date: October 28, 2003 No. No doubt the short of interest for the most fans is What's Opera, Doc? Like I said before, all the cartoons look great, even the earlier ones with less than optimum color. It gets two commentary tracks and an isolated score. Chuck Jones' doe-eyed baby in this one is so exaggerated, he looks like some kind of insect. Broomstick Bunny — June Foray 8.
Disc two features Road Runner and Friends including Stop! These are the real cartoons and nothing but the cartoons. Score: 8 out of 10 Packaging and Extras The set comes in a four-disc digipack similar to the last one. The rest are in the post-1948 package. The packaging is less confusing than usual, with one-page tables of contents to tell us what's on each of the four discs. Contents: 1 Bugs Bunny Masterpieces - The Big Snooze; Broomstick Bunny; Bugs Bunny Rides Again; Bunny Hugged; French Rabbit; Gorilla My Dreams; The Hare-Brained Hypnotist; Hare Conditioned; The Heckling Hare; Little Red Riding Rabbit; Tortoise Beats Hare; Rabbit Transit; Slick Hare; Baby Buggy Bunny; Hyde and Hare Bugs is always great and this collection of top titles shows him at his best - the middle section of his career design-wise and attitude-wise. Rhapsody Rabbit — Daniel Goldmark 29. And out of the mailbag comes Disc 4's much-requested line-up of previously unavailable favorites, including Horton Hatches the Egg.
Disc 4 - Looney Tunes All Stars Part 2 All cartoons on this disc are in the post-1948 package. Disc 2 features our heroes in wartime readiness. Scrambled Aches — Music 9. Orange Blossoms for Violet is a hilarious live-action film that appears to be a silent movie made with monkeys, dogs in costume and the like, arranged into a cliffhanger serial format. Score: 10 out of 10.
I can only agree because Warner answered my complaint, and that of many others: we got our Road Runner. Book Revue — Mike Barrier and Bob Clampett 22. Boy, time has not been kind to some of these people. Many of the Daffy episodes are from the Bob Clampett era, when he was truly a loon. The Man From Wackyland: The Art Of Bob Clampett 20 mins. Kitty Kornered — Mike Barrier and Bob Clampett 17.
It contains 56 and cartoons. My favorite is right off the top, Bob Clampett's The Big Snooze. And each disc is chock-a-block with bonus goodies. In all but a few cases, the colors pop and the detail is like we've never seen it before. Two rare animated shorts are the extras here: So Much for So Little is a plea for public monies to help fight baby-killing infant diseases. There are ten or eleven of these things in a row. We get two shorts featuring Bertie and Hubie, a pair of mischievous mice.
