She didn't have it at the beginning of the episode. With the appearance of a fire demon, they usually attacked as a shadow, making them difficult to see coming, and a little extra scary. So it allows for big loop holes and gives her plenty of time to use the screwdriver. Turns out they have been creating humans in pods and giving them all the diseases so they can find cures.
