Rated this as serious because I had to leave car at dealership for multiple days to have issue resolved. There are three drive modes — Eco, Normal, and Sport — that adjust throttle and transmission responsiveness. Available features include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a choice of two upgraded sound systems with navigation, and blind spot monitoring. However, I dislike the gas mileage and size of gas tank. In small town under 2K population just next street is living the owner of the same car which has peeling on all parts! The next day, more rebooting. Since May 2018 until today, they are more dark spots around my car everywhere.
My 4runner reboot has gotten much worse sing 9-2016 software update from Toyota. When I called again, I was referred to my dealer. I thought I was getting a bluetooth that would allow voice commands. Purchased a 7 yr warranty when car was new but always have to argue with dealer to get them to cover defects through warranty. Started happening on long trips, would reboot itself frequently. Finally after trying everything, it came on. The recall began on May 7, 2015.
Found a blog that suggested calling the 800 number for Entune and complaining, the individual that posted their results, indicated that Entune authorized a replacement system for their vehicle with one that was rebuilt and passed burn in testing. I took the car to the Toyota dealer and he explained that the replacement would cost 2,500 dollars to replace and he explained there was no means to fix it. When I start the car I get a blue picture of the stereo and a status bar loading like on computers when a program is loading. They replace a refurbished one but the problem still there. And low and behold it came back on. See my reply to Zayouna above. I think Toyota overreacted to past problems, that in reality were software malfunctions, but for public relations purposes the mats were blamed.
It always is fine if I turn off and restart the car, as others have reported. I bought my Toyota used in the summer of 2017 and the Etunes head unit froze on the drive home from the dealer. I used the crossover to haul my belongings to a new apartment and to haul carpoolers back and forth across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in moderate to heavy traffic. I feel like they stole me. Cannot use bluetooth, hands-free, cd player, or radio. Car is still barely within factory warranty so I will be interested to see what Toyota does.
Original review: June 12, 2018 I like the size of the vehicle. Finally after several visits and persistance on my part, they looked it up and found a manufacture known defect and a bulletin had been issued about it, They replaced it free of charge, problem is now solved. The latch straps are great for popping the car seat in! If anyone has any idea on how to fix this issue, please post it. I was about 500 miles away from next required oil change. I love the heated seats and backup camera! The car rolled back significantly more than a Subaru Forrester or a Honda Accord on the same driveway.
The screen is sometimes completely unresponsive, sometimes an item I press will come up after a delay, sometimes not at all. No recourse was offered by Toyota on my leased vehicle. Indicator light for steering was on. I hope Toyota resolves this issue without giving me the runaround. It has the rear backup screen and Bluetooth which I love. Finally they replaced the battery. It seems to crash more when using the Bluetooth connectivity I have an iPhone , but also seems to go through phases where it crashes and reboots at random.
