If it is not a fuse, I recommend having a mechanic look at it. When this problem has happen will go into 4wheel drive but will not come out of 4wheel drive. I would take this on a road trip today with an oil change and a quick inspection. Select 4x4 and you could not hear the 4x4 actuating motor trying to activate 4x4. If, after a few turns, the axle locks up and can no longer be turned, the automatic hub is working properly. It was the most dependable vehicle I ever owned.
Don't remember exactly, but that was my issue. Yesterday when I changed the part it worked immediately and throughout the night. Not even a link to any manufacturers for suggestion? No fuses at all are blown. Although I'm confused, the front drive shaft moves at all times! My 4x4 problem started after I changed the battery. To get our 4x4 functionality back, we have to buy the replacement module and pay a dealer to program in our tire sizes, and transmission data. Turned out to be the 4x4 transfer case shift motor was shot. I know it's hard to explain without pics.
And while we're on the subject, does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with mine. Could this problem still be the starter relay? Replace that one window frame bolt try your window. I don't have access to Autozone as I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Is that the way it's designed? Do you know why Ford did the update? To determine if the automatic hub is no longer working, take the car out of 4X4 mode and rotate the axle shaft. It should get power for one range and the other wire for the other range. I'm sure I'll be writing soon with another situation, I drive this truck al the time. It just rolled over 100,000 miles and still going strong. Took to Ford all times becaues still under warrantee. Doors will lock when letting off brake more than once. Replaced factory module two times. It does not want to come out of four wheel low and when it eventually does it makes an awful grinding noise. If that is not the problem then more than likely a relay or the control computer for the 4x4 is messed up.
It should only be used when the truck is stuck or trying to climb a nasty grade. I also had the hood repainted because it had crossion around the edges. The part number for the new updated one is 1L2Z-7E453-A. If this happens there is a good chance that your shift control module is at fault. To test a car with manual hubs, make sure the 4X4 is off and rotate the axle until it locks up. They are so easy to change out.
I still see it around every now and then. It has only been used once or twice but the last known time it worked, all was well. Anything more you need a wiring diagram. The 4x4 fuses on the side of the dash and the ones under the hood are good. The gas mileage is embarrassing, and the tires are ridiculously expensive, but it holds its own and starts and drives every time I want it to.
When you switch the vehicle into either 4hi or 4lo you should hear 2 short clicks coming from behind the dash. Hope this help remember rated this comment. Are you positive the module itself is going bad rather than there being an intermittent connection somewhere? The 4x4 is awesome, and it seems to work for the car they put it into. When i turn the 4x4 switch to either 4hi or 4lo the lights on the dash do not light up and the 4x4 motor does not engage? Both seem to be fine. I got under the vehicle not while it was running and banged on it with a hammer it started working. He figured it out in minutes. Like I have already stated it has 2 wire harnesses that plug directly into the module. Please advise what to look for next. On thing I did notice only after I replaced the module, when you first start the truck, there are 4x4 lights on the left side of the dash - one of them didnt light up after starting not sure which one but after I replaced the module, both lights come on for a couple seconds after start.
